Getting Started

Initial Exam

We provide a complimentary initial orthodontic evaluation.  Your first visit to our office will be for a thorough orthodontic evaluation.  We begin by reviewing any pertinent health history.  We will review what your orthodontic concerns are.  Your orthodontic exam will be an evaluation of your teeth and your jaw relationship.  We will also evaluate how those two components affect facial appearance.  Once our evaluation is completed we will provide you with treatment options which we feel are applicable to correct your concerns.  At the conclusion of your visit we will review financial obligations to the proposed treatment and the financial options that are available.

Records

At the point that all parties are ready to initiate treatment, you will return for an appointment during which we will gather additional information that will be used to formulate a more detailed treatment plan.  Since each patient presents with different issues in need of correction, a custom treatment plan is created for everyone.  These records are specific to orthodontics and will normally consist of a radiographic evaluation, a set of impressions from which we produce models of you teeth, and a series of photographs for a visual record of you, your teeth and your jaw relationship.

Consultation

Prior to placement of braces, we feel it is vital to ensure that you have the tools necessary to complete orthodontic treatment successfully.  We will provide you with an understanding of precisely what your treatment will consist of.  We will review what appliances will be placed and what the goal of their use is.  There will be a review of what is necessary and expected of you to keep braces clean and a visual demonstration of some of the negative effects of improper care.  Finally we will discuss some of the most common issues that could result in the need for an urgent visit for correction (i.e. loose braces or poking wires).

Appointments

The appointment for getting braces placed takes about and hour and a half to two hours depending on what is needed for treatment.  After this initial visit, you will be scheduled for routine orthodontic adjustments every 4 to 8 weeks.  The typical adjustment appointment will take about 30 minutes.  It is important to attend all visits at the designated interval to assure progress in treatment.  We understand that schedules change and that appointments cannot always be kept.  As a courtesy we ask that you notify us immediately if you are unable to keep your appointment.
